Plymouth Argyle dropped three positions to 19th in League One, only two points above the relegation zone, after losing 2-1 to Crewe Alexandra for their sixth successive defeat. Here are the Plymouth Live ratings for each of the Pilgrims’ players:
Mike Cooper 6 – It is turning into a tough task for the 20-year-old playing behind a defence which is constantly changing and looks so uncertain.
Scott Wootton 5 – Played out of position at right-back and did not look comfortable, allowing Charlie Kirk to get in behind him for Crewe’s opening goal. Switched to the right of a three-man defence in the second period.
Will Aimson 7 STAR MAN – Struggled at times in the first half, as all the Argyle players did, but was much better on the left of the three-man defence after the interval as he imposed himself on the opposition.
Niall Canavan 5 – Recalled to the side in central defence and also captained the side. The movement of Crewe’s front three caused him, and his defensive colleagues, lots of problems throughout.
Kell Watts 5 – His move to left-back in the new 4-2-3-1 formation from the usual three-man central defence did not work out, up against the lively Owen Dale. One of two players taken off at half-time.
Panutche Camara 6 – Looked visibly upset at the final whistle after Argyle’s latest defeat. You cannot fault his effort and he has undoubted ability but he still has a lot to learn as well.
Tyrese Fornah 5 – Not making the same impact in Argyle’s midfield as he did earlier in his loan spell, which is probably not surprising because of the Pilgrims’ dramatic dip in form collectively.
Byron Moore 5 – Started in the right-side of midfield role against the club where he started his career. Was a wing-back after the half-time tactical switch. Had only limited effect in either position.
George Cooper 5 – Played in the centre of the midfield three behind Frank Nouble in the first half and hardly touched the ball. Went to left wing-back for the start of the second period and was more involved in the play.
Danny Mayor 5 – Hardly touched the ball in the first half, playing in the left-sided attacking role, as Crewe dominated. Moved into a central role after the interval but still only showed glimpses of his ability.
Frank Nouble 5 – Had a difficult task playing up front on his own when getting such little service, especially in the first half. Replaced by Ryan Hardie shortly after the hour mark.
Luke Jephcott 6 – The Argyle top scorer was surprisingly only named as a substitute. He was sent on at the start of the second half after Ryan Lowe’s tactical switch and grabbed his 10th goal of the season late on.
Lewis Macleod 7 – Very effective in the midfield holding role as a half-time substitute. Now fit again after a knee injury, he will surely start his first game since late September against MK Dons at Home Park on Saturday.
Ryan Hardie 6 – Had Argyle’s first shot on target in the 72nd minute with a low shot which forced a save out of Crewe ‘keeper Will Jaaskelainen.
Joe Edwards 6 – Was a straight swap for Byron Moore at right wing-back in the 73rd minute.
Conor Grant 6 – Was a straight swap for Danny Mayor in central midfield in the 73rd minute.
