Plymouth Argyle are into the third round of the FA Cup for only the third time since 2010 after beating Lincoln City 2-0 at Home Park on Saturday. Here are the Plymouth Live ratings for each of the Pilgrims’ players:
Mike Cooper 7 – Made a series of good saves throughout the tie, showing a safe pair of hands whenever the ball came his way. A big confidence booster after conceding five goals against Fleetwood Town last Saturday.
Scott Wootton 6 – Made a second successive start for the Pilgrims in preference to Will Aimson on the right side of the Pilgrims’ defence trio. Now has the chance of an extended run in the team after this clean sheet and result.
Niall Canavan 6 – Recalled to the starting line-up for the first time since the 3-1 EFL Trophy win against Newport County on November 10. Booked in the 55th minute for squaring up to Lincoln’s Brennan Johnson after a foul on team-mate Tyrese Fornah.
Kell Watts 6 – Had a busy afternoon dealing with Lincoln duo Robbie Gotts and Harry Anderson, who gave the visitors good attacking impetus on their right side. Stuck to his task well, though.
Tyrese Fornah 7 – The holding midfield player got the better of his one-on-one battle with Lincoln ‘number 10’ Brennan Johnson. The pair are on loan at their respective clubs from Nottingham Forest so know each other very well.
Joe Edwards 8 STAR MAN – Excellent, all-action performance from the Argyle skipper and right wing-back at both ends of the pitch. Made some strong defensive challenges and clearances but led some attacking play too.
Conor Grant 6 – Argyle found it hard going in central midfield, especially in the first half, as Lincoln kept pushing forward at them. Grant’s influence on the match was therefore limited and he was substituted in the 72nd minute.
Ben Reeves 7 – Like Grant, he found the first half difficult but there was a definite improvement from Argyle, and Reeves, in the second period. Scored the Pilgrims’ second goal with a superb right-foot volley in the 55th minute.
George Cooper 6 – A solid display at left wing-back, but without getting into as many attacking positions as Ryan Lowe would have wanted. Was taken off in the closing stages as Argyle defended their 2-0 lead.
Frank Nouble 6 – There were long spells of the game where the powerful striker did not see much of the ball as Argyle were forced onto the defensive. Almost conceded an own goal in the second half, but Mike Cooper made a good reflex save.
Luke Jephcott 7 – Argyle were not at their attacking best in this match but Jephcott came up with another goal, his eighth of the season, with a fine sixth minute header. He is such a threat in and around the six-yard area.
Panutche Camara 7 – Replaced Conor Grant in the 72nd minute and provided a lot of energy and drive in the centre of midfield.
Jerome Opoku – Was a straight swap at left wing-back for George Cooper in the 80th minute. Unfortunate to be booked soon afterwards for a tackle on Harry Anderson when he made contact with the ball.
Ryan Hardie – An 86th minute substitute for Luke Jephcott. Could have scored a third goal for Argyle but his miscued shot was saved by former Pilgrims’ team-mate Alex Palmer.
