A rescue operation was launched for a paddleboarder and swimmer in trouble in the sea off Slapton Sands in South Devon.
HM Coastguard were the scene and an RNLI lifeboat was understood to have been scrambled.
They are said to be about 60ft from the shore, but unable to get back in.
An eyewitness on the beach told Devon Live: “I’m at Slapton and a paddleboarder and swimmer have got in trouble about 60ft our. Lifeboat is on its way from Dartmouth.
“Swimmer made it out to the paddleboarder but neither can get back due to the currents. Beach is a bit worried about them!”
By 3pm the paddleboarder and swimmer had both made it back to the shore unaided.
