Coastguard and RNLI crews have been called to Plymouth Hoe this afternoon as swimmers took the the choppy water on Plymouth Hoe.
Rescue crews were called to the are near The Terrace at around 1pm today, with one passerby stating one man appeared to be in difficulty.
She said she felt the incident was “ridiculous” and said that people were “being stupid in the sea”.
The woman uploaded a video to social media TikTok, which showed waves crashing onto the steps and swimmers being bounced around by the tide.
Coastguard and RNLI crews were also spotted talking to the individuals.
It was believed six people were in the water.
“They didn’t seem to be [in difficulty], apart from one man struggling against the waves to get out,” she said.
“But there were over 10 members of RNLI and coastguard there. The wind was picking up.
“It just seemed unnecessary even for experienced swimmers to be in the water.”
Plymouth Coastguard has been contacted for comment on the incident.
