Coronavirus cases rise by more than 840 in seven days across Plymouth

Another 841 cases of Covid-19 were recorded across Plymouth in the seven days to January 18, according to the latest cluster data released on Saturday (January 23).

In that time, the city centre recorded more positive tests than any other area, with 47.

Elsewhere, there were increases of 39 in Devonport, Mount Wise & Morice Town and Stoke & Pennycomequick and 38 in Efford, Laira & Crabtree.

The highest infection rate during the seven-day period was recorded in Stoke & Pennycomequick, with 571.3 cases per 100,000 people.

This was followed by rates of 491.7 in Plymouth St Mary and 479 in Ford & Blockhouse Park.

It represents a slight fall in the number of new positive tests across Plymouth. There were 862 new cases recorded over the seven day period from January 11 to 17.

The cluster-level data – areas of roughly 7,500 people – is five days behind the current calendar day, but gives a more detailed picture of exactly where new infections have been recorded.

Meanwhile another 86 cases of coronavirus were recorded in Plymouth in the last 24 hours, according to Saturday’s daily update from Public Health England.

Nationwide, the Government said a further 1,348 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 97,329.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 113,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

There have also been a further 33,552 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK as of Saturday.

It brings the total number of cases in the UK to 3,617,459.

NHS England data shows 571,449 first doses and 53,312 second doses of a Covid-19 vaccine have been given across the South West – making a total of 624,761.

A total of 6,329,968 jabs have been given in the UK so far, including 5,861,351 first doses.

The provisional data covers the period from December 8 to January 22.
