Fire crews called to suspected gas leak at Devon hospital – updates

Fire crews have been called to Torbay Hospital to investigate a smell of gas.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was alerted just before 3pm on Tuesday.

Two crews from Torquay were sent to the scene. They were backed-up by two more crews from Newton Abbot.

The crews are currently still at the hospital trying to locate the source of the smell.

One of the engines from Newton Abbot is a Environmental Protection Unit.

A spokesman for the fire service confirmed: “We are investigating a smell of gas at Torbay Hopsital.”

He said it was a large fire service response was routine in the circumstances.

“The crews are currently trying to locate the source of the smell,” he added.
