Large police presence reported near Homebase store

A number of police officers were spotted dealing with an incident in Devon this evening.

The force was called to the Homebase car park in Kingsteignton to break up and car meet and issued a number of tickets.

An eyewitness reported seeing a large number of police in the area.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “@DevonLiveNews what’s been going off at @Homebase_uk #Kingsteignton @DC_Police everywhere?”

A statement from the Roads Policing Teams under the Alliance Operations Department added: “We attended a report of a car meet in Kingsteignton today.

“As a result we have issued six speeding tickets, four tickets for offences such as bald tyres and illegal registration plates and 1 S59 PRA warning.”

A section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 warning is used when vehicles areused in a manner to cause alarm, distress or annoyance.

Police in Newton Abbot also had a busy evening on Saturday and were called to deal with underage drinking and fights.

A tweet stated: “An old fashioned sort of Saturday evening confiscating alcohol from teenagers and preventing fights. We now hand over to our night time colleagues.”
