Man, 59, found dead at foot of cliff

Following a police search a man has been found dead at the foot of a cliff near Sidmouth.

Police confirmed the body of a 59-year-old man, from the Tiverton area, was found at the foot of a cliff at around 6.40pm this evening (Friday, September 4).

A Devon and Cornwall Police force incident manager (FIM) previously explained that concerns for the man’s welfare had initially been reported at 2pm.

Searches for the man eventually led the emergency services to Peak Hill.

The coastguard helicopter, the police, the ambulance service and the RNLI all attended the scene, and the man was located at the foot of a cliff. Despite the efforts of paramedics, he could not be revived.

The FIM added: “The man’s next of kin have been informed and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
