Man faces court charged with burglary and assault

A man is set to appear at court later this week accused of burgling a property and attacking a man who tried to detain him.

Officers were called to a property in Southwell Road on the afternoon of August 3 after reports of a man wearing a face-covering fleeing the area following a suspected burglary.

A neighbour is understood to have spotted the suspect and made attempts to detain him, but was allegedly attacked and the suspect fled.

A manhunt ensued and shortly before 10pm the same day a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and of assault occasioning actual bodily harm before being taken to Charles Cross police station.

Thomas Guest, aged 30, has now been charged with burglary and assault, causing actual bodily harm.

It is believed he first appeared at Plymouth Magistrates Court on Saturday August 8 where he was remanded into custody to appear at Plymouth Crown Court on August 14.
