A man has suffered a head injury after a van reportedly hit a bridge in North Devon, rolled down a river bank and came to rest on its roof.
Roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix first reported the incident, on the B3227 Nadder Lane at South Molton, shortly before 4pm.
In an update at 5pm, Inrix said: “Accident, a van involved on B3227 Nadder Lane in both directions near Ford Down Lane (Ford Down Farm turn-off). Traffic is coping well.
“The van has reportedly hit a bridge and gone off the road along this stretch.”
Police have now confirmed that a they were called to reports “that a van was upside down along the bank of the river” – and that a man in his 50s had suffered a head injury.
A police spokesperson said: “Police were called to the B3227 at South Molton at around 3pm this afternoon with a report that a van was upside down along the bank of the river.
“A man in his 50s is in the care of ambulance crews being treated for a head injury which does not appear serious at this time.”
