New data shows three new coronavirus clusters in Devon

There are three new coronavirus clusters in Devon, according to data released by the Government today (December 24).

The areas which have reported new Covid-19 cases include; South Brent and Cornwood (4), Newton Abbot Town Centre (3) and Teignmouth South (4).

Yesterday (December 23), Goodrington and Roselands saw a new cluster with three new cases.

Today’s figures for Devon shows that Chagford, Princetown and Dartmoor have the highest number of new positive tests throughout the county.

The data shows that seven areas East Devon have fewer cases than yesterday – four in Exeter, three in Mid Devon, six in North Devon, two in South Hams, Teignbridge and Torbay, and one in both Torridge and West Devon.

What is a coronavirus cluster?

The Government’s coronavirus cluster map splits the country into areas of roughly 7,500 people, based on the 2011 census, known as Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs).

The map highlights areas where three or more coronavirus cases have been reported for a week period, with the numbers coming off of the map a week after being confirmed positive.

Areas not highlighted do not necessarily have no coronavirus cases in them, as the data does not highlight or count areas with less than three cases in order to protect individuals privacy – meaning that if an area has one or two cases, it will display as 0 to 2 cases.

Cases and infection rate across the county are as follows :

(From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases per 100,000 people in the seven days to December 19; number of new cases recorded in the seven days to December 19;  Then in brackets, the figures for the previous seven-day period)
