Overturned vehicle and breakdowns cause M5 traffic chaos

Multiple broken down vehicles and lorries have been reported on the M5 today, causing major traffic to build.

The M5 Somerset southbound has closed due to an overturned vehicle between J25 A358 and J26 A38, with lane one of three closed.

There is also one lane closed on the M5 Northbound due to a broken down lorry from J30 A376 Sidmouth Road to J29 A3015.

There has been road chaos throughout the region today.

At approximately 11:50pm the M5 Northbound lane closed on exit slip road due to broken down vehicle at J30 A376 Sidmouth Road, and reopened at around 12:20pm again.

There was also a broken down vehicle on the M5 Northbound from J26 A38 (Wellington) to J25 A358 (Taunton) but the vehicle has since been cleared.

And emergency services were earlier on the scene in Exeter following a car crash involving three vehicles.

There are reports of heavy traffic on the scene at B3183 Honiton Road at Warwick Road.

An eyewitness has said three ambulances are on the scene and someone is on a stretcher.

He said: ”Big accident, two ambulances, three cars involved, one of them looks in a bad way, someone on a stretcher, it’s carnage, causing a lot of traffic as well.”
