Pictures show extent of fire which destroyed part of a Devon home

These photos show the extent of a fire which destroyed part of a home in the Torquay area today.

Firefighters from Newton Abbot were called to the incident this afternoon (Monday, September 21).

“Upon arrival the initial crew were met with vast amounts of smoke and flames issuing from the top floor of the property,” a spokesperson for Newton Abbot Fire Station wrote on Facebook.

“It was quickly established that all persons were “free and clear” from the building and fire fighting operations were commenced.

“The decision was made to “make up” for another firefighting appliance from Brixham, as well as the ALP, ( Aerial Ladder Platform ) from Torquay and ISU ( Incident Support Unit) from Bovey Tracey.

“Crews tackled the fire with six breathing apparatus, as well as multiple hose reel jets and main jets, as well as the ALP from above.

“All crews on scene worked hard to limit the spread of the fire.”

Firefighters were still at the scene of the incident this evening to ensure the fire was fully out.
