A man was found dead in a Plymouth hotel room, police have confirmed.
Officers are currently at the scene after the body of the man was discovered by staff of The Belmont Hotel in Citadel Road this afternoon.
A witness has told Plymouth Live the man was living at the hotel and had returned to the property in the early hours of this morning and that his behaviour was erratic. The witness said a member of staff helped the man to his room shortly before 7.30am.
However, when staff went to check on the man at around 2pm this afternoon they discovered his body and called police.
A spokesperson for Plymouth police told Plymouth Live the death was reported to them at 2.32pm by a member of staff.
They said the death was currently being treated as “unexplained” and that next of kin had been traced and informed.
The spokesperson said: “A male in his 20s was found deceased at the property this afternoon and police are currently investigating the circumstances.
“A post mortem will be carried out in the near future, but at this stage the matter is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.”
The spokesperson said uniformed officers and detectives have attended the property and Crime Scene Investigators – formerly known of Scene of Crime Officers – are expected to carry out their work this evening.
The Belmont Hotel has been the focus of similar incidents in the past. In May 2019 paramedics and police officers were called to the Citadel Road property after concerns were raised over the welfare of a man in his 30s. Sadly, he was pronounced deceased at the scene and an inquest held later that year confirmed the man had taken his own life after years of battling alcohol addiction.
