Popular pub closes due to potential coronavirus case

A pub in North Devon has made the “difficult decision” to close following a potential coronavirus case.

The Sawmills Freehouse in Ilfracombe made the closure announcement in a statement on Facebook.

Earlier this month, one pub in Ilfracombe shut after the landlord tested positive for the virus, with two other businesses closing shortly after.

In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson for The Sawmills Freehouse said: ”Valued customers and friends, we’ve made the difficult decision to close temporarily whilst we respond to a potential positive COVID case within our staff.

”We’re truly sorry to have to close on what would have been a brilliant weekend but our dedication to protecting the community and our amazing staff comes at the very top of our priority list.

”We’re trying to get in touch with everyone that has a booking this weekend personally.

”We’ll keep everyone updated as soon as we have fresh information and we’ll keep our fingers crossed it is a very brief closure.

”Many thanks for your understanding and support.”

The business has reassured concerned customers who may have visited the establishment shortly before learning of the news.

A spokesperson for The Sawmills Freehouse added: ”We will of course let you know [if there is a positive case] however if you download the NHS track and trace app it will also light up if it thinks you’ve been at risk.

”Our main worry for contamination was within the staff as all of our customers are somewhat protected by the many measures we put in place to keep them distanced.”
