A popular Dawlish Warren pub has announced its temporary closure after being sold to a local businessman.
Despite this sector being hit hard by coronavirus the new buyer, Nigel Cousens, who owns other businesses in the resort including the Boathouse, plans for a major refurbishment over the winter months and is hoping to reopen next season.
The property is located a short walk from the beach and has a large beer garden at the front.
It also has a customer car park, accommodation on the first floor and provides for large trade areas to include a former function room
Welcome Inn took to their Facebook page on October 1 to announce the news of the new owner to their customers with the update that the pub will be closed until further notice.
They also thanked all of their staff for their hard work over the years.
Michael Easton for JLL comments ‘Our clients have owned the Welcome Inn for some years as an investment and had been assessing it’s longer term future within their existing estate.
“It is a large site of with good visibility and we had already received interest from a number of parties prior to it becoming available.
“Despite the hurdles we have all faced this year and the challenges in this sector there are still buyers looking to invest in the pub trade and grow their existing businesses.’
Matt Bettesworth of Bettesworths added ‘we were delighted to secure this substantial freehold site for Nigel and his family. Being very successful local operators this addition to their portfolio can only be good news for them and of course the local area.
