Rescue operation after car ends up in a ditch on the A38

The A38 is partially blocked after an incident at the Chudeligh Knighton turn off.

A rescue operation is underway after emergency services say a vehicle ‘drove into a ditch’ after a give way sign.

Police say no serious injuries have been reported and just one vehicle was involved in the incident.

An initial report from traffic and travel site Inrix says: “A38 Northbound exit slip road partially blocked due to accident at B3344 (Chudleigh Knighton Turn Off).

“First reported around 19:30.”

Sharing the incident on social media, officers in Devon and Cornwall Police Roads Policing Team said: “Currently dealing with a single vehicle RTC [road traffic collision] at the Clay Lane off slip on A38 near Heathfield.

“Luckily no serious injuries at this time.

“Give way signs mean give way, not drive straight through and into a ditch.”

Devon and Cornwall Police have been approached for more information.
