Three more Covid deaths at Derriford but cases continue to fall

Three more Covid patients being treated at Derriford Hospital have died, according to latest figures.

Three deaths were recorded at the Plymouth hospital on January 29, meaning 186 people who tested positive for Covid-19 and who were being treated at Derriford Hospital have now died since the start of the pandemic.

A death on January 30 has also been confirmed at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. A further death was recorded at Torbay Hospital on January 29.

A total of 588 people have died at hospitals in Devon.

These include three at Mount Gould Hospital, 231 at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, one at Tavistock Hospital, 75 at North Devon District Hospital, 92 at Torbay Hospital and 186 at Derriford in Plymouth.

Over in Cornwall there are no new deaths to report. A total of 42 people have died at Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust facilities and 141 at the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

There are 53 new daily Covid cases confirmed in Plymouth. However, daily confirmed cases are continuing to fall.

The latest daily figures also show 51 new Covid cases across Devon, 13 in mid Devon, 30 in east Devon, three in north Devon and five in west Devon.

Nationally, a further 563 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 71,789.

Patients were aged between 24 and 99 years old. All except 29 (aged 34 to 97 years old) had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from 14 December 2020 to 30 January 2021 with the majority being on or after 26 January.

Their families have been informed.
