Trigger Point: Explosive premiere sees viewers jump from their seats

The first episode of Trigger Point went off with quite the blast this evening, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats – for the most part.

Throughout most of the episode of the brand-new ITV police crime drama, people were less than impressed with the lack of action – with many slating the amount of adverts throughout the show, which some said defused the tension.

Tonight’s episode began with Lana Washington (Vicky McClure) and Joel Nutkins (Adrian Lester) – two explosives officers with Met Police – dispatched to the scene of a suspected ‘bomb factory’ in London – but after a couple of incredibly tense scenes which saw the pair defuse two make-shift bombs, things seemed to be calming down

However, fans were startled when a suspicious-looking van being inspected by Joel Nutkins suddenly exploded, firing a plume of smoke into the air.

One said the jumpy scene made them ‘jump a mile’. Others tweeted apologies to their neighbours for the loud shrieks they let out when the van exploded.

The final scenes of the premiere of Trigger Point tonight showed Lana Washington being carried away from the blast scene, the fallout of the explosion plain to see.

Just moments before the explosion, another officer had identified that the explosive vest defused earlier in the episode had been controlled by two separate burner phones – leading officers to believe this was an organised terror incident.

Viewers were left on tenterhooks, forced to wait for answers until next Sunday, when episode two of Trigger Point airs on ITV, at 9pm.
