Woman transforms her blue front door into a Doctor Who tardis

A woman from West Devon has wowed her neighbours after remodelling the front door of her home – and turning it into a tardis from Doctor Who.

Civil servant Katie Prowse, who lives in Bridestowe near Okehampton, has become “hooked” on the popular BBC sci-fi series after she and her partner Phil started binge watching it during the lockdown.

A week ago Katie and Phil had the sudden realisation that their front door was the same shade of blue as the Tardis – so Katie decided to turn into one.

After sourcing the metal sign on Amazon, Katie found a Sir John Ambulance sign on Etsy and a police callbox decoration on eBay.

She made the Tardis’ windows herself with white vinyl, she told DevonLive, and spent less than £40 in total.

Katie is “more of a gym freak than a Sci-Fi nerd,” she joked to DevonLive, but has really got into Doctor Who during the lockdown.

She said: “My partner is a massive Doctor Who fan and he’s got me hooked on it!

“We’ve been bingeing it through lockdown and the other day we noticed our front door was Tardis blue.

“We thought it would be funny to turn our door into a Tardis and then if anyone was looking for our house, we would just have to tell them to look for the Tardis.

“SatNavs don’t really help our friends find our house, but now we can say “go left at the pub and look for the Tardis – and yes, it is bigger in the inside!”

Katie’s door has made her neighbours smile – and attracted a lot of attention online.

Over the weekend, she shared photos of her Tardis door on ‘DIY On A Budget Official’ group on Facebook and received thousands of likes and comments, with many other DIY fans wanting to copy her.

She told DevonLive her door was already ‘Tardis blue’ but it’s the decorations that have really transformed it.

To make it truly resemble the famous time machine-meets-space craft, she looked online for Police Box decorations – and even made the Tardis’ windows herself from white vinyl.

She found the metal police sign on Amazon and then tracked down a Sir John Ambulance sign on Etsy, before finally sourcing the Police Public Call Box decoration on eBay.

She wanted her door to be “different and quirky” like her, she said, and would urge anyone considering remodelling their own door into something more to “be unique” and just go for it.
